In short
SpeakReal is a speaking coach. To coach you, it has to hear you: when you tap the microphone, your answer is sent to our server, scored and answered, and then discarded. Your recordings, transcripts and mistake notebook stay on your phone. We have no accounts, and we never sell or share your data for advertising.
Your voice
When you tap the microphone, the recording of that answer is sent over an encrypted connection to our server. The server converts it and sends the audio to Microsoft Azure AI Speech, which transcribes it and scores your pronunciation. The transcript (not the audio) is sent to OpenAI, which writes your coach’s reply and your corrections. The reply is turned into speech by Microsoft Azure.
If you paste a job ad or notes for a meeting, that text is sent to OpenAI to write your interview questions or your rehearsal. If you ask to say something in your own language, that short recording is transcribed by Microsoft Azure and the text is sent to OpenAI to find the English; the recording is deleted from your phone once it is sent.
Our server does not keep your audio or your transcripts: it processes them for that one request and deletes them. Microsoft does not store audio sent to its real-time speech service. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days only to detect abuse, after which it is deleted.
SpeakReal asks for your permission, and names Microsoft and OpenAI, before your first answer is sent.
On your phone
Your profile (languages, goal, reminder time), your sessions, transcripts, scores, mistakes, saved phrases and drills are stored only on your phone. Recordings of your answers are kept on your phone for 30 days so you can replay your own words, then deleted. Settings → Delete my data removes all of it from the phone at once.
What our server keeps
The app creates a random install ID the first time it opens. It is not linked to your name, email or phone number. Our server keeps, for each install ID and day: how many seconds you spoke, how many answers and drill items were scored, and how many characters of speech were generated, to apply the free limits and the fair-use limit and to understand our costs. To limit abuse, it keeps a salted one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself. It keeps whether your install has an active subscription.
Subscriptions
Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat, our subscription provider, receives your install ID and your purchase history so that your subscription works and can be restored on a new phone.
Analytics and crash reports
We use PostHog (servers in the European Union) to count how the app is used, for example that an onboarding or a drill was finished, and to receive crash reports. These events carry counts and screen names only, never what you said, and are linked to a one-way hash of your install ID, not to you.
Your rights
You can delete everything on your phone in Settings → Delete my data. To delete what our server keeps for your install, or to ask what it holds, contact us with the install ID shown in the app and we will answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or the UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.
SpeakReal is meant for adults preparing for work and is not directed at children under 16.
This website
This website has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no cookies. It only remembers, in your browser, whether you turned its sounds on, and never sends that anywhere.
It is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse.
If you write to us through the support form, your name, email address, topic and message are emailed to our support inbox so we can reply, and stored nowhere else. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person before the message is sent, which may process your IP address and browser signals. To limit abuse, the form counts messages per IP address for one minute without keeping the address.
